Working in groups

LI: To understand that everyone has a role to play when we are working in groups.

For this task I learnt that working with and from each other is an amazing learning experience to learn from others. Our task was to learn about the Kuaka bird and to learn from each other so we could put our knowledge together and get to know more about the kuaka. Collaborating in this activity helped us because again we used our knowledge and put them into one main idea and because talking to each other helps you in your learning time as for being individual you can’t create more ideas or better ideas, and because if you needed help there would be no one to talk to or to help you as for working in a group may help you get better in learning time and because when you don’t know what you are doing, it’s good to talk to each other and get different ideas from each other. Something we learnt as a group from each other is that the Kuaka are always in flocks as they migrate from New Zealand to Alaska, and Alaska to New Zealand. On the way they refuel in Asia mainly on the Chinese coast, their diet is molluscs, worms, and aquatic insects. We got to ask questions during this task about what we wondered, in the comments. In LS2 we learn best when we learn from each other, collaborating helps us because we get better ideas.

What did Samuel Marsden see?

LI: To use the information in the diary extract to create an image of what we think Samuel Marsden saw when he sailed down the Tamaki awa.

We used Adobe Express to explore the great effects AI can do. We used our imagination to create what we thought Samuel Marsden saw in 1820s. We included collaborating with each other and joining our ideas to get greater and bigger. We got the choice to choose either work in partners or to work individual and I was working in partners with Hasna. I enjoyed this task because we learnt that his diary is very interesting as he came back to New Zealand about 7 times.

The Kokako

LI: To use our smart searching skills

Our Year 7/8 camp was at Kokako Lodge in Hunua. Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to find out about the kokako bird and create an infographic to share the facts we researched in our own words. Something I found interesting about the kokako bird was that the Kokako isnt really good strong fliers but they can get to the places they need or want to go, I also found out that they were classified as threatened which is really interesting for a amazing Bird like the kokako.

Moment in time

LI: To write a poem that describes a moment in time

At camp we had lots of challenge activities to try. Our challenge in with our poem was to choose our words carefully so that we painted a clear picture of what we were describing in the mind of our readers. Mareta, Sweet-e and I have described what it was like to be on the high beam. We chose this challenge because we thought this was one of the only activities that challenged us really hard and we faced our fears doing this.  I enjoyed doing this activity because this poem helped us describe our favourite activity.

Who was Samuel Marsden?

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

For this activity, we created a DLO explaining who is Samuel Marsden and what he is known for. To make sure our facts were correct we used three different websites to make sure our we were all on the same page. I found this activity interesting because LS2 found out the history behind Samuel Marsden’s diary and facts about Samuel Marsden.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads

For this activity, we were challenged to reasearch about Kauri Dieback, and use the links that were provided for us and our smart searching skills to find out what Kauri die back is, how to spot the diseases, what causes Kauri Die back, and what stops it. We need to know this knowledge about Kauri Dieback so we can do our part in helping and to keep Kauri safe when we go on the hike at camp. For this task I worked with Hasna and we found it interesting because it spreads to wild pigs.

New Zealand National Flag

LI: To understand the story behind our flag

For this activity, We learnt about the national New Zealand flags. We got into pairs to get both sides of our prior knowledge of New Zealand, and then we reasearched about the national flags discovering how our flag has been changed overtime. Something I found interesting is that the New Zealand flag we have representing our country was widely chossen to be our national flag since 1869.

What Learning Should Look Like in LS2

LI: To co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2

At the start of the 2025 learning year LS2 had a discussion about how we could make the most of our learning time. For this this task we got into to groups and collaborated together and I collaborated with Melle, CJ, Tejal, Antonia, River, and Taisorn which I enjoyed because we were giving each other ideas and collaborating together. We also gave each other the expectations that were meant to do around the class and what are expected to do. One of our expectations around the class is communicating and sharing ideas with each other, the communication is helping us to gain confidence and make friends, and sharing ideas with each other also helps us gaining confidence and it helps ideas get into bigger ones. This activity was fun because we joined together and had fun as well as learning together.

My goals for this year are to get my confidence, level up, and get into Epsom Girls Grammer College this year.

SLJ kick start – Narwhals

For this task Summer learning journey task I was challegend to create a poster about narwhals based off of the links and videos we could watch that was provided for us. A interesting fact I learned about narwhals is that they change colors as they age from blue – gray when they are newborns, Juveniles are blue to black, and adult narwhals are a motted gray , and when they are old they are nearly almost white. This fact helped me to recongnise which narwhal is which. Another fact I learned about narwhals is that they spend their lives mainly around the artic of Canada, Greenland, Norway, and Russia.

I enjoyed this task because this helped me learn about narwhals and help me to identify them and how they are aged.
