Procedural Text

For our inquiry task, we did dinosaurs, we got into groups of two or three and then made dinosaurs out of paper, and we made our own instructions with paper and we had Coloured paper, glu, a pencil, and a ruler, also we made a proderul text to tell everyone what to do if they want to make a parasaurolophus dinosaur, i hope you like it.

Malala Yousafzai

Thank you

LI: To identify the main arguments Malala presents for education and peace.

For this task we have been handed in the challenge of making a poster on one of Malala Yousafzais key messages in her speech, when she made when she turnt 16 years of age. She was a protester that fought for woman’s justice to have the oppurtuntiy to be educated, and she also mentions is her speech the Taliban and the things in humanity that make it bad ! This included poverty, racism, social injustice, racial bias, gender bias and much more. She called upon the many leaders to change their political view, and thanking the people who were praying for her, and the ones that helped her recover from when she had got shot on the left side of her face. What I found interesting is that she did’nt let anything define her on what she is and didnt let anyone put her down !

Taranaki – Cinquian Poem

LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A cinquain poem has 5 lines but are not sentences. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name basically something you can touch for example a table. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun your talking about. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. Without repeating words you’ve used before.

We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes. In parteners or a group of three we got to choose a volcano, this means we could choose a volcano around the world. Me and my partner Amorangi chose to do Taranaki. We were describing the form of a volcano for example how it sleeps, when it wakes up, then when it erupts, and then lastly the after damages, it may seem easy but really its challenging.

Something I found interesting about cinquain poems is that you have to have exactly 5 lines, you cant make it below or over the 5 lines.

Why Maungarei sleeps – Pourquoi story

A long, long time ago when the dinosaurs used to roam around, there was Maungarei, the fire mountain who was bad tempered. She was a powerful warrior who always stood tall. She exploded in fury when she was woken from her slumber, with her rage that always took over her emotions. As she let her anger take over she rumbled sending other maungas around her in all directions. They knew it was time to take cover before she was surrounded by a smoke screen of fury. Maungarei soon came to her senses and tried to make up with everyone as she realised how bad the damage was caused by her anger. She now still feels lonely regretting everything she has done. She always used to let her rage take over her emotions. She was unable to control her outbursts when someone would annoy her because she was hurt and jealous from always being left out. She was surrounded by her siblings who all ignored her and put their attention on the youngest of the family. She felt more and more angry that she was the middle child and always wondered why no one would understand her and make rangitoto the favourite of the family. She was always moody because of being left out.  After she realised how much of a mess she has caused from her anger she released her temper, until one day she regretted every decision she made and felt sorry for how badly she treated her siblings. She noticed that there was one person that never left.

That person said “ The best way to predict your future is to create it, right now you can create your peace but in saying that you need to apologise to your siblings”

with regret in her eyes she replied “ i’m sorry mum, I didn’t mean to affect yous all I wanted was a friend I felt so left out everyone was favoriting Rangitoto”

Mum“ its alright my darling, make peace while you can”

Then Maungarei created peace with her siblings and apologised. She chose to control her anger and now she rests peacefully.Maungarei now sleeps everyday, she improves her anger and she now rests soothingly and tall, she is seen throughout Tamaki Makaurau. From now on it gets really quiet and her siblings are lonely without her around they miss her anger issues. Ever since then no one lives in fear and people who called Maungarei home used the scars of her past fury to plant their kakano. Maungarei temple lies in her volcanic heart, whilst the whenua and her whanau are at peace her eyes remain closed but we should all remind each other of a heart that still beats.

Adobe express generated photo:

For this task we have been learning about pourquoi story. What is a pourquoi story you may ask? a Pourquoi story is a strong connection to a certain culture that explains why things are the way they are, or how something is the way they are, they are very creative and they should create answers to questions. For example ” Why is the sky blue?” a pourquoi story makes creative answers and it might be a cultural belief on the answer or it could be an creative answer. I created a text explaining about why Maungarei sleeps? For each paragraph we had a limit of time to finish that paragraph, for my story I made sure I used punctuations, powerful words, and dialogues. We used Adobe Express after we completed our story to generate an image by using prompts that we write down in our own words. I chose this image because it paints an image by just looking at the picture and reading the texts. To generate this image, I wrote “Peaceful volcanic guardian mountain, with eyes and mouth that are closed with rocks flowing out of the foreground at sunrise“. I enjoyed this task because it was a fun task and I got to get creative with this.

Diary WW1

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there

For literacy we have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC during WW1. We reaserched photos and saw many awful things the soldiers had to go through in war, we also looked at videos of what life was like in the trenches, we also explored Walking with ANZACS website and we read Hami Grace’s diary. Doing this helped us create our own diarys and helped us create an image of what we thought WW1 was like. Once our diary was done we got great feedback from Mrs Anderson, after we used Google vids to recorded our diary, I enjoyed this because it helped me learn about history and what happened in the past.

Tamaki Awa Hikoi

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling.

Our task was creating a Photo story of our walk to Pt England Reserve by using the photos from the walk. To create a story by using photos we want to put the photos in the time order  sequence by explaining how fun our walk was I always wondered how long the walk took. One thing I enjoyed was when we came back to school after the walk and we got to make a podcast acting like we were talking to Samuel Marsden and ask him questions.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

For this task, we wrote our pepeha which lets everyone get to know our roots. This lets us get to know each other as a community. I found this activity fun because I got to learn more from others. Thank you for reading my pepeha as I give my acknowledgements to you all.

What Learning Should Look Like in LS2

LI: To co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2

At the start of the 2025 learning year LS2 had a discussion about how we could make the most of our learning time. For this this task we got into to groups and collaborated together and I collaborated with Melle, CJ, Tejal, Antonia, River, and Taisorn which I enjoyed because we were giving each other ideas and collaborating together. We also gave each other the expectations that were meant to do around the class and what are expected to do. One of our expectations around the class is communicating and sharing ideas with each other, the communication is helping us to gain confidence and make friends, and sharing ideas with each other also helps us gaining confidence and it helps ideas get into bigger ones. This activity was fun because we joined together and had fun as well as learning together.

Cultral Tatto

For this task we learnt about cultural tattoos, we got into groups of 3 or 2 and we used our ethnicities and their tattoos for example since im Maori I used Ta moko, and a Moko kauae as Ta mokos represent tane (male) and Moko kauae represents wahine (female). A fact I learnt was that there are very important rules to follow when getting a Ta Moko or a Moko kauae, which helps make sure its done right by someone who knows their knowledge about it. I enjoyed that this task lets us reconnect with our culture and helps us grow our culture.

Papyrus AI

Today we created a mixed story using the fairy tales Snow white and Little Red Riding Hood on Papyrus AI. Papyrus AI uses our knowledge and ideas to help us explore these more by predicting prompts that help us write more on how the characters felt and what they did. I learnt that Papyrus AI can help generate (predict) suggestions like the settings, characters, and how the characters are feeling. I had fun doing this because this helped us use our prior knowledge and expand our ideas.

Our story:

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Snow white that didn’t get to grow up with her mother due to her passing away, as her dad left heartbroken. He found another lover and remarried. Her step mother was cruel and selfish, she didn’t care about Snow White which made her feel devastated, since she thought she would have had a loving mother… However she was wrong. Every morning the evil queen would always ask if she was the prettiest of them all to this truthful mirror, until this one morning the evil queen confidently asked the mirror thinking it would be herself once she questioned the mirror, then replied that it was Snow White. Hearing this made her jealous, she sent a hunter to kill her, and told him these exact words “ bring her heart back”  when he went out for the kill he said to her to run and never come back. As she did she realised how dark it was and how many trees there were. As she walked in more and more she was getting scared because of how lonely she was, and she then bumped into a girl who introduced herself as Little Red Riding Hood. They kept walking along this path as they were getting to know each other. Snow White asked what she was doing out so late in the dark forest especially at night, and Little Red Riding Hood replied sadly “ My mother told me this morning my grandmother is very sick, so I made her a basket and im on my way to drop this basket off, and you seem like a outsider, what are you doing in my village? ” and snow white sighs and says her reason “ i’m here because my evil stepmother wants me dead”  they keep following the path and then Little Red Riding Hood gets distracted as she approaches these beautiful flowers she trips over and looks up and sees a big bad wolf and as the wolf sees two little girls he asks them “ where are you off to”  and they reply “ were just dropping off a basket for my grandmother as she is very sick” and hungrily the wolf makes a plan and takes off to Grandma’s house, as he’s so hungry he goes into Grandma’s house and he says he needs her help but her being sick shes sleeping and the wolf desperate for food he eats her up in one gulp, and now the two innocent girls arrived and says “ good afternoon grandma we want to give you this get better soon basket and the wolf seeing how much he can eat in one gulp he tells them to get more and more closer he jumps at them and eats them all up in one gulp, but the hunter looking for snow white he bursts the door open and picks the wolf up, turns him upsidedown and shakes him. And Snow white gets out, Little Red Riding Hood pops out, and then a little more shakes and Grandma pops out. As the three covered in saliva  run off leaving footprints on where they’re going the hunter shoots and gets the wolf and follows the footprints to see where they have gone and they get out and live happily ever after. The moral of the story is not to talk to strangers.
