Camp Food Budget

LI: To understand a budget is a plan for managing money.

In our camp activity groups we were given a budget of $2,000 to feed and hydrate everyone. We chose a menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for morning tea and deserts. We used our smart searching skills to find the best price for the food we wanted. The maths strategies we used were multiplication. working in groups helps me understand because it gives a better understanding from each other and it helps us get a small idea created into a bigger idea. Something I enjoyed was working together in my group because we collaborated and got to know each other more better while we were at camp.

Camp Cabin Maths

LI: To use our knowledge of basic facts, to solve a problem.

For maths we have been learning about maths, and a thing we were doing for our maths was the organisation of it like the cabins and how much came to camp. We used our basic facts knowledge to solve how the issue of how many students in one cabin. The strategies we used were addtion because it helped us get how much of girls and boys there were, and how many of students there were altogether. Something we found interesting about working out the word problems was that we could all fit into 5 cabins because of how big our class is. I learnt it is important to use my own strategy because it lets me get a better understanding of what happens.

Dot to Dot Connections

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

For reading me and my group did a dot to dot connection about the kuaka bird. In order to do this task we found  7 words that relate to the kuaka. Then we connceted the words for example: Migration and Habitat a connection between those words would be that they migrate for a better and safe enviorment, because the kuaka migrate from New Zealand to Alsaka to find a new better environment for a habitat. After we had done that we came back to it and added more information to keep it up to date on it.

Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

For this task we learnt about the Kuaka bird and where it travels daily around New Zealand. I used google maps to create this migration map. What helped me during this task is my group and I collaborated during this task and we helped each other out. A main question we have is why do they migrate? They migrate for the season because when it starts to get cold in New Zealand they go to Alaska and then it goes the same way when it starts to get cold in Alaska.  They have one refuel during their migration and its between Japan and china coast. A interesting fact about the Kuaka bird is that they fly up to 12,000 kilometers from Alaska to New Zealand.

The Kuaka

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka

Recently we have been learning about the Kuaka or the Bar Tailed Godwit and they’re long migration. For this task we were creating a infographic about the Kuaka bird. While doing this task and learning about this amazing Bird I found out that they stand on one leg to preserve energy to me that’s really interesting because not all birds can stand on one leg like they can as well as travelling that far and only having one refuel stop. From this Google draw I can see that I gained more knowledge then I knew before about this bird.

Tamaki Awa Hikoi

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling.

Our task was creating a Photo story of our walk to Pt England Reserve by using the photos from the walk. To create a story by using photos we want to put the photos in the time order  sequence by explaining how fun our walk was I always wondered how long the walk took. One thing I enjoyed was when we came back to school after the walk and we got to make a podcast acting like we were talking to Samuel Marsden and ask him questions.

Exploring AI

LI: To identify and understand how descriptive language is used to create a clear picture of a setting in a text.

For this activity, Me and Hasna used Adobe Express to help us create an image of the description in the text. To create this image we used prompts we got from the text to make it look like an alleyway. We included details to make the alleyway a bit scary and terrifying. We learnt that we have to use powerful words to make the AI generate what we want. I enjoyed doing this activity because this helped me experience the significance of AI.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

For this task, we wrote our pepeha which lets everyone get to know our roots. This lets us get to know each other as a community. I found this activity fun because I got to learn more from others. Thank you for reading my pepeha as I give my acknowledgements to you all.

Camp collage Movie

LI: To create a collage of images or short movie that reflects my time at camp

Our camp at Kokako Lodge in Hunua was a great experience as we got to challenge ourselfs, face our fears, and be collrative. My movie shows each activity we done, and all our highlights we had during camp.  I chose these photos because this shows what we got up to at camp, and all the fun activities we done because while we were at camp everyone got to enjoy themselves as whole, and it shows the fact that we had a really fun time during the four days we were at camp.

Preventing Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand how we can help prevent Kauri Dieback disease and why we need to do this.

One of our challenegs at camp was to walk the Cossey- Massey track at Hunua. Before we entered the bush we had to make sure our shoes were disinfected. This DLO tells why we needed to do this and why we need to help prevent the spread of Kauri Dieback.

I think this is an important message to share because if you don’t do all the steps you will spread the Kauri Dieback diesease on to the Kauri trees and ruin their branches.
